Help Haiti

Correspondent Melanie Reim and the rest of us at Urban Sketchers express our deep concern for the people of Haiti. Following Tuesday's devastating earthquake, there's a need for both urgent humanitarian aid and ongoing poverty relief.

Melanie, who has documented the sugar-cane fields in the neighboring Dominican Republic for the past decade, donated the sketches you see in this call-to-action poster. She said the Haitian workers she met there welcomed her "with the brilliance of a smile that lit up the huge skies."

Marc Holmes, a board member of our nonprofit who contributes to this blog from San Francisco, had the idea for the poster and designed it.

"If our sketching moves someone out there to help, that's a tremendous thing," Marc said.

We encourage you to download, print and share the poster with others where you live. Put it up in your local school, community center or coffee shop so more people are reminded of the need for donations. Share it on your blog and social networks.

You may translate the words to your native language and edit the poster to include local phone numbers for the Red Cross, Medecins Sans Frontieres or other disaster-relief organizations.
