In the Netherlands we don't give presents at Christmas, but at the feast of Saint Nicholas, or as the children say: Sinterklaas. The evening of December 5th.
Grown ups give presents as well, but mostly less serious, in the form of surprise presents. A small object, often self made, accompanied by a long poem, which makes fun of the reciever.
Below you see the presents I made for my family, from adapted Yu-Gi-Oh cards, to a Hunk calender. The object with the door contained the drawing above: a representation of my daughter's chaotic student room.

Last year I posted a drawing on "Sinterklaas" on USK as well: see http://www.urbansketchers.com/2008/12/sinterklaas.html

Love how you draw the presents you made. It will bring you smile in the future. :-)
I adore your sketches. These details of your daughter's room are wonderful and she'll treasure it far more than just a photo. I could stare at it for hours!
this idea of self made toys with a poem is new to me love the idea of having sketched your daughters room!
Isabel, I can assure you a lot of Dutch do this every year. I always think it's better and more personal than the materialistic present-giving at christmas.
Thank you all for your comments.
