El Conde is a street in the old part of the city (by old I mean colonial old) where ladies and gentlemen of yore would gallantly stroll by foot or on carriages. Today, it is lined with loud bachata, loud vendors and a sour-sweet concoction of smells. As you might be able to infer, it is not my favorite part of town, but the shopping gives me a good opportunity for live action. So I sat on a nearby bench, drawing this colorful display of locals and tourists rummaging through clothes. Dominicans are never shy about coming up to you, REALLY CLOSE, and letting you know that you are doing a good job in your drawing, or that you should make it a little more lifelike, or that you drew them a bit too fat. I don't take it personally anymore (it's been a process) and I continue to draw, because, after all that's what it's about no?

just amazing fiesta of color and formation
I really like your figures! Great postures, lively lines - and my favorite is the woman in black capris and blue/white striped top.
Wonderful drawing and color.
Wonderful atmosphere captured here, and I love the attitude of the figures! Your description is great too!
nice color. feels like candy.
hi Nathalie, well you know I love your drawings but I'm finding that I love your writing as well! I'd love to be able to come up to you on El Conde, REALLY CLOSE, and tell you that in person. Especially since it's sooo cold here in New York right now! xo Ronnie
Very funny, I got a chuckle from your story. Fantastic drawing too.
...but maybe a little more lifelike... !? ;-)
beautiful, colourful perspective! Great work!

Hahaha thanks for the great comments. Ronnie, I would ABSOLUTELY love to have you come up to me in EL Conde and surprise me! You guys should head down here... I'd love to see what you draw, there is more than enough characters that's for sure!
