Torcross is a small town at the end of Slapton Sands on the south coast of Devon, in south-west England. It first managed a mention in 1602 when an inhabitant described everything as being "all well". Hold the front page! It has occasionally hit the headlines, though - it is at constant threat from rising sea levels and heavy storms, and in 1944 about 750 American servicemen lost their lives as they prepared for the D-Day landing when they were intercepted by German torpedo boats. It's a gentle enough place now.
