A few weeks ago, we had a spate of self-portraits at the hairdresser. I decided to go back to mine and draw her in action with other clients. With a handful of various brushpens, plus a big 8b graphite stick, I went to work. Next time I want HUGE paper, instead of the 10" square pieces I had. Crystal's very balletic and her outfits (only half of which you see here) are amazing, requiring big arm movements of mine to show her in all her glory.

I really like the overall feeling. The color marks are very interesting. I think I am going to have to try brush pens. You did a really nice job capture the shape and form of the figure. Really interesting place to sketch.
Oh, I love these, Laura! Excellent. I can just picture her activities here. Your work is so confident and fresh here.
Hairdressers often seem to wear funky, interesting clothes - I guess all those mirrors make them think about it more! These are wonderful action sketches Laura. I love the touches of colour with the big black expressive strokes.
your lines capture (for my eyes) the "whoosh" and "swhish" and general hairy business of such an event. And may i say how i love the tulips in the corner? i delight in how you capture those "corner" details.
These are amazing - I especially love the movement in the last one.
great sense of movement and they really tell the story - beautifully caught
Great action scenes of the clipping! Full of life...
I was at the hairdressers today and would have loved to sketch my hairdresser as she works. What a great idea. I especially like the last drawing with the look of concentration on Crystal's face. My hairdresser is a hardworking diva who owns her shop, looks like Cameron Diaz, and stops every so often to primp in the mirror, fluff her own long blond locks, talk on the phone, or gossip with her co-workers about who she just talked to on the phone. So why do I put up with that? Because she totally gets my hair and it's worth polishing the pedestal she puts herself on to get that perfect hair cut every time.
