Lunch Time @ McSorley's

I'm a little obsessed with this place at the moment, it's one of my favorite places to draw. All my postings have been at of bars lately and I could say that it's the cold New York winters driving inside or I could just say I'm English and having a pint is one of my greatest pleasures. I have many more bar sketches to share.

your drawings are made from photo?

Thanks all.

No Gordon. I did these on location, half leaning against the bar and at a table to finish off. I've drawn in this bar so often it's almost burned into my brain.

These are absolutely fantastic! Very dynamic and soulful. It must have taken you forever, though. You start off with red pen and then use Pitt artist pens? Conte crayon?

Hi Stephen
These are living, breathing drawings. I'm not surprised you are obsessed by this place - your drawings somehow link us to all kinds of memories, stories. We could see some character from Joyce or Hemingway pushing open the door and walking into your drawing. Where are the rest of your drawings - do you have a blog/website where we can see some more?

These are really great. I love the one at the bottom - the table-tops and light and shade are perfect.

Thanks for all you comments.

Laureline- I start with pencil and then the mid tone Pitt pen as as I grow more sure of what i have a work with a darker pen then use a brush pen to broadly put in all dark shadow areas then come back again with a black pen to define the image and then add color at the end which I try to keep to a minimum.I always finish with the darkest black brush pen.
