There are leisure crowd in Tokyo too, many of them in fact. Most parks are impressedly peaceful, Starbucks crowd is relaxed and of course, crowding around Sensiji Temple is always fun. Focal interest is the great Senso-Ji Shrine with the great gate and the central great red lantern. The main shrine is a single storey building behind with a tiered pagoda to the left of the main gate. I did this painting back at home in a mix of watercolor and Neocolor II by Caran D'ache, which is water soluble, size 11x15 in.
The sketch of the main gate and the shrine were done on site, pencil on paper, 8x11 in sketch pad. I found sketching on site is the most fun. There's built-in valuable elements that's beyond description of wind (the first thing I recalled), noise (far and near), a thin passing layer of dust (unfortunately but bearable from the big group of outing students and the old man skillfully sweeping the ground near-by) lovely feelings..

We had a great lunch in a small restaurant that served a delicious prawn tempura on rice followed by sweet red bean paste on shaved ice from another shop next door.
And we walk, yes, round and round. Everything seems interesting, most things look so interesting, they seem as if we've seen it in the shop we just passed by yet different. Just interesting!!

Love the pencil sketches...
The colours in the painting are gorgeous. So lovely to see the drawings as well.
You're right about the memories of the moment, that get absorbed into the sketches when you draw on site. I can still recall all those associated things from looking at drawings that are 15 years old! So much better than photos.
So amazing what you do with pencil and buildings!
A lovely contribution. Thank you.
These are terrific! I love the couple on the rickshaw...now you are really making me homesick for Tokyo. Along with Nippori, this was my favorite part of the city.
Love the pencil ones too... Soft but a lot of energy...
