Meet the correspondents: SEOUL > Yong Hwan Lee

"I was born in 1949 and have lived in Seoul since. From my childhood I wanted to become a painter and practiced. But going through the Korean War and the economic development it was so hard for artists to live on painting than these days that my parents never agreed that I went to art college. So I chose architecture at university. Living as an architect over 30 years I kept a hope to be a painter which I dreamt since young. On 1994 I happened to meet several watercolorists who painted every Sunday outdoors. The next week I joined them and have kept painting with them over 15 years. I sketch, paint and finish on the spot before I come home. That's my motto."
