McSorley's

This is one of New Yorks great old bars, It can be a bit of a tourist trap at weekends with line to get in but if you can manage to go through the week at lunchtimes you get to see it at it's best. I've been in there on many occasions to draw and seen other sketchers doing the same, the place is kind of a living museum. Manhattan has so many great bars and I've drawn in most of them, drawing and a pint. Now your talking.

Awesome drawings, all different. The first one is amazing, I love the mixed strokes and shades in that one... Seems like a nice place.

lovely work! i really wanted to do some bar-room drawing when i was in NY last weekend, but couldn't find the right place; i went to pete's tavern, which i thought would work since it's old, and the name, you know, but all the tables were reserved for some work do, and the bar area was full (of english people). So i drank up and sodded off. Perhaps next time, i'll ask you for some tips!

Thanks guy, bars are such a great place to draw or not for that matter.

Flavio, I touched.

Nina, it's a great place.

Pete, I have some drawings in Pete's tavern, another great pub. Next time you're around let me know and we'll drink and draw together.

yes, you are very versatile - mastering such differenet techniques. My fave is the bottom one, just because its so painterly. What paper did you use for it? Looks almost like a canvas

The last drawing was done on canson art paper, I used brush pens art sticks and gouache. Working on toned paper always feels like getting a head start.

My favorite is the last one- wonderful technique- amazing work.

Lovely drawings -- and thanks for embodying McSorleys. My favorite time for McS is in the late afternoon -- used to be a regular stop with some friends. When I first got to NYC women weren't allowed in...we had to fight our way there.

Great work. And nice to see such different styles in each.

Ooh, gorgeous! I particularly like the Old Ale House drawing. Lovely!

Beautiful drawings, the wonderful thing about McSorleys is that its physical appearance changes oh so little over the years. I used to frequent it when I lived in NYC in the 1970s,-80s and have only been back a couple of times since, but these drawings reek of a place and time. The sepia drawing puts me right back in one of those chairs, working on a serious hangover. Thanks!

Love the Ale House in particular.

fantastic, love the three different styles. I thought the last a photo for a sec. And nothing sounds better right now than a pint and some sketching!
